We lost Tony McCarthy to a black card in the first half, which was a massive blow but we rallied well in the second half and again, it was our ability to get goals that proved crucial; Liam OSullivan also keeping up his run of goalscoring form. A late goal from Darren OConnell saw us defeat our neighbours Ballybrown in the quarter-final of the Junior Football Championship. JUNIOR A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER-FINAL: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 3-6 Ballybrown 1-11. It was a tightly-contested battle as youd expect from a match between neighbours and we just about did enough. It means that we have once again proceeded to the County Semi-Final; a stage further than last year but a stage at which we fell in both 2015 & 2016. Its good to be back in a semi-final, but Ballybrown made us work hard for the victory.

We did what we had to do in terms of securing a large enough margin victory to be the team with the highest score difference but results elsewhere saw us slip to second in the table as it came down to head-to-head. But the hard work has been done, the semi-final was the true aim and that has been achieved. In the final game of the group stage of the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship, we rattled in four goals against Blackrock and secured a well-deserved 12-point victory! It was nice to finish the group stage off with a victory to leave us full of confidence heading into the semi-final and it was a good performance, particularly a storming first half. PREMIER INTERMEDIATE HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 4-16 Blackrock 0-16.

We moved back to three points in front when excellent work from Conor Staff saw him feed Jack OKeeffe in space, who guided the ball expertly inside the upright for his first score of the game. A powerful run from Kyle Hayes saw him being fouled and John Chawke levelled the game with his second long-range free. Keel Moloney put in a big shift throughout, and when he powered out of defence on one of his typical barnstorming runs, he found Barry OConnell in space with a clever handpass and the captain made no mistake with a lovely measured shot from distance. Some brilliant work by our forwards saw them dislodge the ball, Cathal Downes burst onto it and used his considerable pace and power to break free of his marker and flick the ball over the bar to give us the lead, the man who is still minor making a huge impact. Our work rate all over the bark rose another couple of notches in this period and we started to win more turnovers from the Blackrock backline.

Kyle caused absolute havoc in the Blackrock defence over the next few minutes as he fired over three points on the trot; his pace, power and physicality impossible to handle. It had taken Blackrock a while to settle, but over the next few minutes, they would let us know that we were in a real game and they landed the next few scores to reel in the deficit bit. Kyle then turned creator and his pass across the field found his All-Ireland-winning teammate, Barry OConnell, and Barry made no mistake either to give us a 10-point advantage. There was just the two goals between us again when Kyle Hayes did brilliantly to win a puckout, he was able to pop the pass to Ruair Maher and with the form he was in, he made no mistake, firing over his third point of the half. The first of the trio was an absolute monster score from way out on the left touchline while on the run. He then linked up well with Conor Staff, came through the centre and popped it over the bar before great work from Keel Moloney set him up for another point.

The 1940s was the last time a side from the parish competed at senior level, which is much too long for a proud club. Kildimo and Pallaskenry have been joined at adult level since 2012, officially amalgamating in 2016, and we have come such a long way in that time! It is a huge opportunity for the club to achieve senior status with such a talented crop of players available!

It was already a more free-flowing encounter than the week before and when Conor Staff used his pace and power to burst through the centre, he was able to pop the ball over the bar to give us a three-point lead. Tony McCarthy, in particular, was a tower of strength at full-back and Kevin OConnell was tested early on by the pace of the Blackrock corner-forward but grew dominant as the half progressed, winning a number of fifty-fifty balls. When Kyle broke past his opposite number in midfield, a bit of space opened up in front of him and he was able to fire over his second point of the evening. Blackrock were also creating chances, and moving lots of ball into their full-forward line but our full-back line were standing firm.
