Aldergrove (@2.25) vs Moneyglass (@1.8)
05-10-2019

Our Prediction:

Moneyglass will win

Aldergrove – Moneyglass Match Prediction | 05-10-2019 12:00

The visitors were bitterly disappointed in losing their fifth league game of the season by a single point. Both sides will be glad to see the league ending in what both would class as a poor season to date but with championship just around the corner there is still ample opportunity to end their respective seasons with a flourish. Over the hour the home side deserved their win as they made much better use of their scoring chances.

My dark horse for the County is probably Loughrea.Portumna have been getting hammered by everyone so far. Good matches to come in both codes... Gort looks average. In Hurling it's a coin toss as usual. I'd probably favor Corofin and St Thomas's to retain their crowns though it will be tough going for both. Corofin had some of their toughest matches in Galway last year in the football. St Thomas's, Sarsfields, Cappataggle, Tourloughmore, look awesome and I know I'm leaving out some great teams so forgive me. Fintan Burke is a huge loss for St Thomas's but they seem fine without him. In Galway things are moving along nicely.

Today predictions

Despite their control, the Moneyglass men were left to thankthe brilliance of Mark Carey between the sticks to keep Tr na ng at bay. Two outstanding saves and two further majorchances came and went for the visitors to Marion Hill before Redmond finallyhit the back of the net but Moneyglass were worthy of their margin of victory.

Christy Sheerin fired over his third point of the match tocut the gap to four points but the home side managed the time remaining bykeeping hold of the ball and not giving Tr na ng a sniff. Conaill Prenter took his tally to 1-3 for thegame with the last kick of the game as the home side celebrated a comfortablevictory. The two points ensure theMarion Hill side are now guaranteed second place and a two-leggedpromotion/relegation play off with whoever finished second bottom in DivisionOne.

Owen Gallagher, one of sixbrothers in the St. Fergal Burke responded for St. Josephs panel, burst through from midfield to land anexcellent point but back came the Crumlin men with a move that started indefence and finished with Fergal Burke finding the back of the net. We then had the firstgoal of the game when Thomas Gallagher was alert and finished to the net forthe visitors to restore their lead. James toclose the gap to one when he split the posts but the ever reliable MichaelMcCourt added to his tally with a pointed free. The visitors playing up the hill were first on the scoresheet with a Michael McCourt pointed free but Brian McQuillan and SeamusMcGarry replied with points to put the reds in front.

for me it's Celbridge or Athy to win it out.Intermediate will be won by Clougherinkoe, Monasterevin or Leixlip with the Cloughs my tip.Junior final is this weekend and I'd imagine it's Ballymore's with a good bit to spare. Kildare has been without much surprise, other than Naas' demise leading them to a relegation play-off, very soo matter winning div.1 of the league. With the senior semi finals coming up it is all to play for and the teams left will all feel they have a chance. Moorefield were beaten by Sarsfields in the group stages and I'm not sure they have the 3 in a row in them..

Moneyglass overcame Glenravel in the first Intermediate semi and a late burst from Aldergrove in the closing minutes seen them pip St Pauls in the other. In the Junior Lisburn and Ardoyne will contest the final. In the hurling Cushendall beat St Johns in the Senior replay yesterday to set up a showdown with Dunloy in Ballycastle next Sunday. Ciaran Loney added to his sides tally which left the visitors leading by double scores as Aaron McGarry replaced Thomas Gallagher and with his first kick of the ball he helped himself to an opportunist goal. The visitors hit a purple patch at this point however, scoring 1.06 without reply to virtually put the game out of reach of their opponents. Mark Torbitt had the final say with a point to leave the visitors winning by 1.14 v 1.08. Niall McCann and James Gallagher hit a brace a piece and Fergus Cunningham struck a good point from a difficult angle. To their credit back came the hosts and were rewarded with a goal from the penalty spot expertly taken by Conor Dixon.

After a close first half the game was finely balanced but the second half belonged to the Chapel Hill side. Going into this game the home side playing at their home ground on Kirkwood Road knew they would be playing division three football next season. On the other hand the visitors knew their division 2 place had been secured for another season.
